The Indigenous knowledge center (Inheems Kennis Centrum Internationaal), OSCAM, Papa Aswa, Patta Academy, The Black Archives, and Naturalis invite you to Naturalis Nights: Suriname on Saturday 21 March. They'll come together to share their unique perspectives on Suriname and, together with Naturalis experts, create a crossover between culture and nature. Together, we'll explore themes such as spirituality, biodiversity, the colonial past, and the role museums like Naturalis can play in this.

Surinamese culinary restaurant Papa Aswa presents a culinary experience where signature dishes are linked to Surinamese history and identity. Cassava, as a cultural foundation and power food, forms the common thread in the stories about food as a carrier of knowledge and tradition.

Black Harmony transports you to the enlightening power of Surinamese song. Visitors are immersed in rituals and instruments that express spirituality and a connection with nature. As a tribute to their heritage, language and cultural identity, the group sings exclusively in Sranan Tongo.

Densely forested Suriname: Climate colonialism and its impact
A panel discussion on how Indigenous and Maroon communities shape their interactions with nature and how this contributes to the conservation of Suriname's forests. The discussion highlights the importance of local knowledge, often wrongly considered inferior to western insights, and the struggle to preserve the forest, which is under pressure from colonial and commercial interests.
